“Summer Meadows at Canonteign”.
Amid swirling clouds and rugged terrain, this charcoal landscape provokes deep thought. It navigates the traditional boundaries of representational art with its detailed portrayal of grasses in the foreground set against the commanding presence of distant hills. Strong strokes and textured shading create a play of light and shadow, prompting viewers to reconsider their perception of space. This creation disrupts classic landscape norms by embracing a raw, almost tactile quality, challenging expectations of tranquility in nature. It hints at cultural maturity, urging introspection on one's connection to the untamed yet artistically interpreted natural world. How does this rugged representation redefine our appreciation for the wilderness?
This is a charcoal drawing of the view across the meadows looking toward the labyrinth that was commissioned by the Baylis family on the Canonteign estate.
The summer meadows are filled with butterflies and the back drop of the wooded hills up toward the waterfall is really very lovely to look at.
