Summer at Canonteign.
This is a pastel drawing of the view across the meadows looking toward the labyrinth that was commissioned by the Baylis family on the Canonteign estate.
A cluster of vivid, gold-flecked details sparks curiosity, directing attention to the lower left corner of this landscape. The shimmering specks set the stage for a fluid interaction between the colors that follow. Cascading purple, blue, and green strokes create an energetic foreground, weaving an elaborate arrangement. The undulating hills in the background blend into the sky, where swirling clouds suggest gentle movement permeates the scene. The summer meadows are filled with butterflies and the back drop of the wooded hills up toward the waterfall is really very lovely to look at.
