The starting point for this piece was a project that centered on discarded shopping lists. The board was collaged using a series of shopping lists that I “found” week after week at the local supermarket. One persons list I kept finding was or appeared to be shopping for herself and someone called June. Each week June had some items listed in the centre of the list… mainly dairy and sweet. Every week this persons shopping list took the same format with very similar items.
So the substratum of this work is a collage of these repeated weekly shopping lists that I gleaned from the discarded shopping trolleys left in the car park.
This works patterns were inspired by looking at photographs of Mecca and people waiting for prayer. It was also an observation of crowds in public spaces and beaches in South devon during the Summer.
