“Summer Evening” , Totnes.
A turbulent sky of stormy grays and silvery whites sets an intense mood above a windswept landscape in this compelling piece. The rolling hills, awash in earthy ochres and leafy greens, convey an expansiveness that feels almost immersive. Textured strokes and energetic lines bring life to the scene's undulating terrain, as the foliage appears both lush and rugged. The play of light and shadow across the fields creates an impression of movement, as if the viewer can almost feel the wind rustling through the grasses. This piece reflects contemporary environmental discourse, urging a re-examination of our connection with nature and its formidable beauty.
This view looking North from the town of Totnes this ever changing view always captures my heart. The long shadows as the sun sets in the West, the dance of trees and hedgerows.
Drawn with pastels onto paper on which I had created a ground with natural pigments mixed with gesso. The surface gave a unpredictable key on the paper adding texture and rhythm.
